The Barclays Dubai Tennis defending champion, Novak Djokovic, today met with customers and employees at the Barclays Premier branch at Emaar Square in Dubai.

Djokovic cut a tennis racket-shaped cake and signed autographs much to the delight of tennis fans, who had gathered to greet the player. The event was attended by the CEO of Barclays Global Retail Banking – Emerging Markets, Vinit Chandra.

Speaking on the occasion, Mark Jones, Managing Director UAE & Asia, Barclays Corporate, said, “We are delighted that Novak Djokovic joined our customers and colleagues to celebrate the spirit of sportsmanship and tennis. Our sponsorship of the Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships signifies our commitment to promoting sports.

"Barclays involvement in sports extends beyond event and individual sponsorships to sustainable projects that have a lasting impact on communities where we operate. In line with this, community initiatives are a key element of the programme around the Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships 2010.

“Barclays colleagues have been involved in volunteering efforts during the tournament including helping out at the special needs clinic, held last week. Colleague volunteering is as much a part of Barclays culture as is sport.

Addressing his fans and well-wishers, Djokovic said, “I would like to thank Barclays for welcoming me here today. I hope you stop by the courts next week and enjoy watching some great tennis.”
