Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic took part in a Dubai Duty Free Barclays Kids Day clinic on Monday morning, ahead of their fourth tilt at the Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships title.
Nearly one thousand school children attended the two-hour clinic, run by Clark Francis Tennis Academy, which launched the Men’s Open. The ball kids showed took part in drills and the Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships mascots Ace and Annette also joined in.
Nestor and Zimonjic will be looking to avoid their second successive first-round exit at the ATP World Tour 500 hard-court tournament, when they play Feliciano Lopez and Tommy Robredo later in the week. This week’s top seeds have a 5-3 record in Dubai, highlighted by a runner-up finish in 2001 (l. to Eagle-Stolle).
This year, Nestor and Zimonjic have jumped to a 13-2 record with two ATP World Tour titles at the Medibank International Sydney (d. Hutchins-Kerr) and the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam (d. Aspelin-Hanley). The pair also finished runner-up at the Australian Open (l. to Bryan-Bryan).
Later in the day, third seeds Mahesh Bhupathi and Max Mirnyi saved four of five break points to defeat Mahmoud-Nader Al Baloushi and Abdullah Magdas 7-5, 6-0 in just 57 minutes for a place in the second round.
