Second Seeds Reach Doubles Semis

Second seeds Sania Mirza and Elena Vesnina advanced to the semi-finals of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships on Thursday with a 6-1, 4-6, 10-8 victory over Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez and Shahar Peer.
The Indian-Russian duo broke serve four times and won 63 per cent of points on first serve to claim victory in 73 minutes. Spain’s Martinez Sanchez had won the title the past two years in Dubai, partnering Liezel Huber in 2011 and Nuria Llagostera Vives in 2010.
Mirza and Vesnina go onto face Su-Wei Hsieh and Shuai Peng, who defeated Iveta Benesova and Barbora Zahlavova Strycova 6-3, 2-6, 10-5 in 69 minutes.
Elsewhere, fourth seeds Llagostera Vives of Spain and Australia’s Anastasia Rodionova battled into the last four as they defeated Americans Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears 6-3, 2-6, 12-10 in 80 minutes.
